Arguments and Fighting

Arguments will get us nowhere other than hurting one another with our words. Arguments break up family members who are close. Arguments turn friends into foes. There is no reason to argue to the point where we just want to hurt one another. There is other ways to get a point across. If one did something that another did not like there is no reason to argue or fight. We can just sit down and talk it out. If you did not do something that another say you did then you can just sit down and tell them that you did not do the action that the person have put on you with his or her words. You can just tell them your proofs or reasons why his or her words are not true. Arguments lead to fights which get us nowhere but more misunderstanding and pains. If we think before jumping into conclusion and starts raising our fist or voice there will be less misunderstanding, pains, and fights. Scientists show that we are all brothers and sisters after all so why are we trying to hurt one another?

Missing and Fights

When we are with the ones we love we end up getting tired of them and start to argue but once we do not get to see them for a very long time we miss them. This is exactly what happens on Thanksgiving, my family came all the way from all over to meet up at my uncle's house where it is a lot bigger than mine; we have a very large family. On that day everyone brought their own food to the feast, from fried rice, to turkey, to dessert. I was to make the mash potatoes and sugar cookies shape like turkeys, Indians, and Pilgrims. At first everyone was happy to see each other and had no idea why they move so far away from each other. Once the game starts one of my uncles starts to argue with his brother about cheating on the games. This was before we even got to eat. After a while after my Uncle Loin stop my two uncles we all sat down to pray and eat. Then just because both of my grandpas have left my uncles argue about who should cut the turkey. It was a total chaos. Then my grandma stood up and said my oldest uncle would cut the turkey. After the feast, we get together to hear my grandmothers tell stories. While my grandmother from my mom's side was telling the story, one of my uncles from my dad's side got into an argument with my other uncle from my mom's side. Their argument made everyone tired so everyone gave kisses, hugs, and goodbye wishes to my grandmothers and thanked my uncle who is the owner of the house for his hose and we all left family by family. If we do not get to see one another for a very long time we miss each other but when we get together we step on each other toes.

Discerning Pancreatic Cancer from Pancreatitis

http://www.sciencenews.org/view/generic/id/50071/title/Discerning_pancreatic_cancer_from_pancreatitis

Scientists and doctors are working very hard to find ways to get rid of cancer for good, but with mistaken cancer's sign by another sign of damage tissues can really cause patient to be in danger then they really are in. This is support that if we are not careful more people can get hurt. Even though it is dangerous but without taking risk we will get nowhere near the cure. Lots of our accomplishments are from taken risks, like from making airplanes to finding cures. This go with the saying "nothing venture nothing gain." A little lump and be mistaken as a tumor but in reality it is something else. If the doctors and scientists did not take the risks of messing with the lump they will not know what that lump really is pancreatitis. They are a far way from identifying it more accurate but this is one step forward to the success of identifying it more accurate.

A Crazy Story

This is true.

Just the other day my uncle came up to my house to tell my mother and I about how his beloved wife turn her back on him after all he has done for her. He has helped her to come over here to America from Vietnam and also her parents. He was doing paper works for her twin brothers to come over here when the whole thing begins to fall apart. It all started when he did his paper work for her to come over here to America. She came over by herself with my uncle since they are married. At first everything was fine. He loved her very deeply. She seems to be a very nice person to everyone in the family from my grandparents to my uncles and to me and my siblings. My uncle paid for her to study to get her nail license. He also helped her get her citizenship. After her citizenship, my uncle helped her fill out paper to bring her parents over here to America. After about a few months after the paper was done, which was about eight years since their marriage, my aunt finally gave birth to their first born daughter. My uncle was very please. He is around thirty years old and now he finally has his first child. Right after the child was born, my aunt's mother made my aunt tell my uncle to sleep by himself. And she goes sleep with the baby and her mother. They did not allow my uncle to see my aunt or his own child. My uncle did not give that much attention even though he wanted to be around his own child and wife. He even looked for a job for my aunt's father. My uncle drives my aunt's father from home to work and back again. If one day my uncle is late when he gets home both his wife and her mother yelled at him asking why was he late and let my aunt's father took the bus home. My uncle just told them that he was running late because he has too much costumers to leave and pick up my aunt's father. Plus, he is in America now he should know how to use the transportation just in case there is a day like that time where my uncle cannot pick him up. About three days after the argument my uncle came home and found everything that belongs to the baby, my aunt, and her parents was gone. No one was in the house. He called my aunt's cell over and over again but she did not answer. About two or three weeks later, my aunt called my uncle and told him that a police has pulled her over on the highway going to Texas because her license plate was out of date. She told him to come and get her, her parents, and their baby. After that incident in the house it was very quiet. My aunt and her parents act like as though my uncle does not exist. They eat together as a family and ignore him. He has to sleep alone in his room which use to be both his and my aunt's. Where ever they go they did not tell or ask my uncle to come with them. About a few weeks later, my uncle has a day off and he was sitting in the couch in the front room, when my aunt's parents and my aunt gather their things and started to put into the car. My uncle was surprised. He asked them what was going on, but they did not answer him. They acted as though he is just part of the wall. They took everything that belongs to them and the baby and they took off again. My uncle was heartbroken. Then a few weeks later after my uncle called my aunt several times she finally answer and told him why she left. She said that the reason why was because he did not respect her parents. He then asked her did her parents respect him. He was the one who helped them to come over here and was the one who own the house. He brought the cars that they took off with. He was the one who run here and there to help them get their driver license and nail license, and yet, they did not show him any respect. He cannot say a word in his own house. He cannot sleep or talk with my own wife and child. My grandfather's picture was removed from where it was given respect because my grandfather has passed away and he cannot say a word about it. In Vietnam to pay respect to the dead, the family has to put the picture of the dead person on a shelf and pray to the dead to keep them rest in peace. It was not allowed to be move unless the family is moving to another house or place. If the picture is to be remove a priest or a qualified monk was suppose to be asked to come and do the service to move the picture in respect of the dead. Yet, my aunt's mother just took it off the shelf without a word. After my uncle told my grandmother, who has moved back to Vietnam since my grandfather was buried over there, about what my aunt's mother did, and my grandmother had a talk with my aunt's mother, my aunt mother said that she will pick a day to put the picture back up. That means that is more disrespectful to the dead to make them wait more days without paying them any respect. My aunt's parents are the age of my grandmother's second child. So according to the respect the elders rule in Vietnam, my aunt's parents has to be respectful. My aunt was only the age of my second aunt's daughter. Still my aunt's mother disrespected my grandmother. My aunt is only about twenty five and my grandmother is about eighty-nine going on ninety years old. My aunt is only old enough to be my grandmother's grandchild and she told my uncle that my grandmother has to show respect and apologize to her mother, when her mother is the one at fault. Her mother did not show any respect to my dead grandfather and talked to my grandmother as an equal, which is a very disrespectful way to talk to someone who is old enough to be your mother or worst grandma. My aunt's mother is about in her mid forty and that is the age of my grandmother's oldest daughter's first son. My grandmother talked politely to both my aunt and her mother and yet my aunt said that my grandmother did not show any respect to her mother. My aunt even told my uncle if my grandmother does not show respect and apologize to her mother then they will have a divorce and he would have to pay child support. Who is at fault in this situation? I do not get why someone nice as my uncle and grandmother has to have this happen to them. How can there be a person like my aunt who backstab the person who loved her so much that let her do whatever she wants. He even gives her his whole pay check. He did not live the way Vietnamese people should live where the husband is in control the wife supposes to be respectful, polite, and nice to the husband and the husband's family. The reason why was because the wife is married into the family and the whole wedding from the dress to the place the wedding toke place to the ring on both people hand was paid by the groom's family. Pretty much all the bride has to do was to show up and say yes. The bride was brought by the groom's family. My uncle left all that tradition behind and let my aunt have her freedom and become his equal and yet, she is not happy with that. She went and stabs him in the back. Who is really at fault and can there be a way where my uncle can have his baby back since he did not do anything wrong? Does he really have to pay child support? Does he have to be separated from his first and only child that he had waited for so long? L T_T

Symposium

I went to room two hundreds to listen in on the presentation of Jessica Voyles. Before she starts she gave information about herself to the audience. She is a honor grad student here at University of Memphis. Her presentation was on "Does Prosody Facilitate Reaction in High and Low Knowledge Comprehenders". Throughout the whole presentation she talked about her research on the topic. In her research she told the group that Prosody does not affect high knowledge comprehenders but it helps the low comprehenders. At the end of her research she talked about her hypothesis. During her presentation in the front left hand corner a man was holding up flash cards telling Jessica how much time she had left. It is really hard to understand her presentation. The whole presentation was about twenty-five minutes total. Though-out Jessica's presentation of her project the audience was very quiet and some people did not seem that interested in the presentation. There are some that was there with their laptop or clipboard to write down notes from her presentation. The audience did not ask any questions at the end of Jessica's presentation so around two twenty-seven the audience started to leave the room. There was not much time for Jessica to give out that much information. Even though she did cover her research background, for an outsider having no clue on what she is talking about it is very hard to comprehend and understand her presentation. I had a friend with me to the presentation and afterwards I asked him did he understand anything that was being presented and his reply was, "I have no idea. All I know was the student was trying to present something about prosody. She did explain what that is but I still do not get her presentation. There is not enough information given to fully understand her. Her presentation was good but not very informative." This just support that the presentation was not given time to allow Jessica to fully give her full presentation with the full information that will allow other people who have not idea about the subject to understand it.

Very Confuse

I witness a very harsh beating from the parents to a 10 year old child. I have no idea what I should do. The child is someone close to me and so are the parents. The beating was very harsh but not to the point where the child has bruises or cuts. The child just has some places that are swollen like his leg and his behind. He was limping after the beating. I witness it but I cannot jump in to say anything for the child. It was very harsh. The parents beat the child with a belt, a metal stick, and a broom. After the beating I found out that the only reason why the child was getting a beating was because his parents told him to go to the mall with them but he did not want to go. He wants to stay at home with an older sibling who is an adult instead of going to the mall. Just for that reason he receives a beat down. What should I do about this situation? If I report it then the parents might get into trouble but if I do not then it might happen again, because one time one of the parents put the same child head under the water while the child was crying. Lucky at the end the parent let go and allow the child to pull his head out of the water to breath. If the child was not allow to breath then the child would have die already. I am so confuse on what should I do? Which one is the right way to solve this problem?

So Much Work So Little Time

I really do not know how I am going to deal with all of this work I have to do. I have homework with all of this paper work my mom needs me to do. How in the world am I going to be able to do all at once? Lucky most of my blog are already typed up just need to be published. Another plus for me is that I did get started on my lab report already over the weekends so now I just have to finish it, but still this is just too much paper on my desk. Stacks of homework including some that are from today that are due on Wednesday and some that are from last week that are due tomorrow; then there is another stack of paper from my mom that she needs me to do and give to her in the morning. Then there is another stack of paper that my dad needs me to help him fill out for his work. So much work and I do not know when I am going to be able to go to sleep. I hope I do not fall asleep in class tomorrow. High school work was nothing compare to all of this work from college. How I am going to manage I have no idea. I am going to keep trying though even if it means staying up until 3 or 4 in the morning, but I hope it does not get that late until I finish with everything. I am now working on like 5 different works at the same time. Hopefully I do not mix things up and type something that belongs in another paper.

Lost in a Maze

Have you ever been through a maze where you have no idea which way to go? At first you thought you knew but then you notice that most of the paths you took turn out to be dead ends. That is how my life seems to turn out to be like. Each time I thought I know what I am doing it turns out that I have no clue. I try to make things better but it turns out that it only makes things worse for me. I try my best to find a way to get out of this whole mess but it only show that the more I try the deeper I seem to be getting into the whole thing. This whole maze is giving me a headache. Instead of finding the path that will promise me a way out, I found more and more dead ends. I try using the help everyone advise me. At first the paths seems to be a promising path but once I tried it out I found that it is just another dead end. Those path works for others but it will not work for me. Maybe because I am Vietnamese that is why the paths will not work for me. Could it be because I have not reach the age or that I have pass the age to take those paths? Whatever the reasons may be I am stuck in this very maze for the rest of my life. I will never get a chance to see freedom that everyone has experience of having.

Which Choices Should I Make?

I want to be in Connection C12 again in the spring but the Biology Class is around five to six close to seven. I am ok with it but my mom is not. She does not want me to be out that late. I am eighteen. I know what I should do and what not to do. Why can't she just trust me? I am not a little girl anymore. I am a pre-adult or some may say adult now. I know that in my mother eyes I will always be her little girl but I also want to have my choices, especially in my choices of classes for college. I understand that it is the Vietnamese's tradition that female should not stay out so late at night by herself, but I also want to be an American. I want to keep the tradition but I also want to add in some of American's tradition. She has already stop me from driving just because she is afraid I might get hurt, even though I pass my driver test on my first try without mistakes. She also does not want me to hang out with my friends after school. I respect her wishes because she is my mother. My grandfather taught me that I should keep the tradition but he also believes that we cannot keep away from the American's traditions either because we are living in the country. Yet, my mother does not share the same opinion. What should I do now? I want to take Connection C12 but my mother does not want me to. Another thing is that I already talk to Dr. Sorin to have the permits for Connection in spring. I am so confuse. I do not know what to do. Which choices should I choose? If I do as my mother wish again then she will be happy but I am not comfortable, but if I do not do as my mother wants then she will be mad at me. I am totally confused and frustrated. I asked most of my friends and they told me I should do what I feel comfortable with; it is my education. I am the one who is studying not my mother. This is America not Vietnam and my mother need to deal with it. My father on the other hand, after I ask him, say just do as my mother please then the family will not be in a huge conflict. Be a good girl and let my mother have her way. She knows what is best for me. I know my mother knows what is best for me but she did not go to college and study my field or study with Connection. How can she see what an opportunity it is for me? I like to meet new faces but I am also comfortable with have some familiar faces in the classes too. L I do not know which choices is the best one.

English in Class Movie

The video was about the diversity of human skin and how we started off from Africa. The "Eve" and "Adam" that survive the Africa dessert pass along their genetic genes to the offspring. Then after a while the offspring all spread out. A few went to what is now called Asia and then a group went to what is now called Asia while the other went south. Then they slowly spread to the other four continents.

It surprised me that most of the group started off going to Asia then to the rest of the other five continents. Most of the video did not surprise me that much because it was cover in the article that was given out titled Skin Deep. In the article it cover how there is diversity in the skin and how it became that way. The information about all of us came from the same ancestors is not a surprise either. Scientists have been studying about the ancestors and our DNA knowing that we are all in some way the same. Even if our physical features does not show that we are all related in some way, our DNA still show that we have similarities.
