Symposium

I went to room two hundreds to listen in on the presentation of Jessica Voyles. Before she starts she gave information about herself to the audience. She is a honor grad student here at University of Memphis. Her presentation was on "Does Prosody Facilitate Reaction in High and Low Knowledge Comprehenders". Throughout the whole presentation she talked about her research on the topic. In her research she told the group that Prosody does not affect high knowledge comprehenders but it helps the low comprehenders. At the end of her research she talked about her hypothesis. During her presentation in the front left hand corner a man was holding up flash cards telling Jessica how much time she had left. It is really hard to understand her presentation. The whole presentation was about twenty-five minutes total. Though-out Jessica's presentation of her project the audience was very quiet and some people did not seem that interested in the presentation. There are some that was there with their laptop or clipboard to write down notes from her presentation. The audience did not ask any questions at the end of Jessica's presentation so around two twenty-seven the audience started to leave the room. There was not much time for Jessica to give out that much information. Even though she did cover her research background, for an outsider having no clue on what she is talking about it is very hard to comprehend and understand her presentation. I had a friend with me to the presentation and afterwards I asked him did he understand anything that was being presented and his reply was, "I have no idea. All I know was the student was trying to present something about prosody. She did explain what that is but I still do not get her presentation. There is not enough information given to fully understand her. Her presentation was good but not very informative." This just support that the presentation was not given time to allow Jessica to fully give her full presentation with the full information that will allow other people who have not idea about the subject to understand it.
